Equipped to Serve
Monday · Anchor: Eph.4.12
From the sermon Marks of a Dangerous Church
There's a quiet revolution happening when a church stops hiring people to do all the ministry and starts equipping everyone to serve. Paul writes that Christ gave leaders 'to equip the saints for the work of ministry.' Notice: the saints do the work. The leaders equip them.
This is countercultural. We're used to paying professionals — for our plumbing, our taxes, our entertainment. Why not our ministry? But the body of Christ doesn't work that way. Every joint, every ligament, every part has a role. When one part sits idle, the whole body limps.
Maybe you've thought, *I'm not qualified. I don't have a degree. I'm not on staff.* But Scripture doesn't ask for credentials; it asks for willingness. The coach doesn't play the game — the players do. And you, friend, are on the field.
What if the reason you feel stuck spiritually is because you've been spectating instead of participating? God designed you to contribute. He wired you with gifts, experiences, and a unique way of loving others. When you use them, you don't just help the church — you grow. You mature. You become dangerous to the powers that want you passive and distracted.
This week, ask the Lord: *Where do You want me to serve?* Not someday. Not when you're 'ready.' Now. Because the body needs you, and you need the body.
Pause and consider
What has kept you from stepping into ministry? Is it fear, busyness, or the belief that someone else is better suited? What would it look like to take one small step this week?
Prayer
Father, forgive me for the times I've been content to watch instead of serve. Show me where You want me to step in. Equip me, even when I feel unqualified. Help me trust that You work through ordinary people for Your extraordinary purposes.
